Orac is taking a brief blog break to recharge his Tarial cell

In order to recharge his Tarial cells, Orac is taking a blog break, as difficult as it is for him to lay off antivaxxers for a while. He will return soon enough.

This is just a brief announcement to let Orac’s readers know that he is currently taking a break to recharge his Tarial cell and to contemplate a black hole. Indeed, you might have noticed his…inattention…to the blog since at least Tuesday and the lack of a post on Wednesday or Thursday. Although it is indeed difficult for Orac to lay off COVID-19 contrarians, quacks, antivaxxers, and conspiracy theorists—not to mention other kinds of contrarians, quacks, antivaxxers, and conspiracy theorists—his Tarial cell will malfunction and ultimately run out of energy if not recharged occasionally. No one wants that, other than perhaps a few of the more annoying commenters here, not to mention antivax leaders like Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Del Bigtree, and a veritable panoply of COVID-19 cranks.

Fear not, however. Orac will return in his own inimitable way, as he cannot do otherwise. Tarial cell or not, he must return. Given the nature of black holes (and Tarial cells), he is not certain whether it will be September 23 or 26. In the meantime, if the comments get too annoying, Orac might turn them off until his return.

Orac is the nom de blog of a humble surgeon/scientist who has an ego just big enough to delude himself that someone, somewhere might actually give a rodent's posterior about his copious verbal meanderings, but just barely small enough to admit to himself that few probably will. That surgeon is otherwise known as David Gorski.

That this particular surgeon has chosen his nom de blog based on a rather cranky and arrogant computer shaped like a clear box of blinking lights that he originally encountered when he became a fan of a 35 year old British SF television show whose special effects were renowned for their BBC/Doctor Who-style low budget look, but whose stories nonetheless resulted in some of the best, most innovative science fiction ever televised, should tell you nearly all that you need to know about Orac. (That, and the length of the preceding sentence.)

DISCLAIMER:: The various written meanderings here are the opinions of Orac and Orac alone, written on his own time. They should never be construed as representing the opinions of any other person or entity, especially Orac's cancer center, department of surgery, medical school, or university. Also note that Orac is nonpartisan; he is more than willing to criticize the statements of anyone, regardless of of political leanings, if that anyone advocates pseudoscience or quackery. Finally, medical commentary is not to be construed in any way as medical advice.

@ Orac,

I’ve always wondered how you’re able to write so many respectful insolence posts, seemingly without rest. The image of “Orac” at the beginning of this communication may provide a clue. Is that crystal meth in the glass bulb? Hmm, I hope not…

I agree we all lost our brains for the past 2 years thinking there is a mass grave in one place like Jim Jones did in Jonestown did. I agree anti-vaxxers keep pushing Kool-aid References on us. They want the public to think we were pushing Godwins Law on them. No these elected officials keep flashing the Kool-Aid on our faces. We were looking for the mass grave at Governors rallies and Trump Rallies.
